The first new Assassin’s Creed game in three years, “The Taken King,” hits stores on Nov. 22.
And while Ubisoft has been quiet about the game since its release, the studio did tease a few of the details in a recent interview with GameSpot.
In the interview, director Alex Hutchinson says “Darkness” and “the story” of the game is based on the first Assassin’s Story DLC released last year.
The original DLC included a new story that “had more to do with the Dark Brotherhood than the original game,” Hutchinson said.
The new story also focused on “the Dark Brotherhood in a way that didn’t feel like a sequel,” he continued.
The DLC “changed the way the Dark Knights played, and I think that’s really the core of what I wanted to do.”
Ubisoft also teased that the game will have a “deep dark tone” that’s “something we haven’t seen before,” and that the Dark Knight will “feel different than he ever has before.”
Hutchinson also said that “darkness” is the name of a game mode, though it wasn’t clear what that mode would be.
“The dark will be there,” Hutchinson says.
“I’m hoping that it will be more than that.”
Hutchinson has been working on the “Dark Knight” game for years, but the developer has been silent on the title since the launch of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
In the past, Ubisoft has shared its thoughts on “The Darkness” game, and this is the first time that the developer seems to have addressed it.
“It’s a really important part of the story that I’ve wanted to tell for a long time, and the reason I started working on this game is because I’ve really loved the story of ‘Dark Knight,’ and I’m trying to write a story that has a deeper meaning to it,” Hutchinson explained in the interview.
“So, it’s a great time for me to say that this game isn’t a sequel, it isn’t the end of a trilogy.
It’s not even a sequel to ‘Darkness,’ it’s the beginning of something new.”
“Darken” also marks the first “The Night of the Hunter” game from the Assassin’s creed series, and it’s not known when “Dark Night” will launch.
But it is a game that has fans of the franchise salivating.
Hutchinson told GameSpot that he is still working on “dark” aspects of the upcoming game.
“What I want to do is try to tell this story with more mystery and more tension, and in a more interesting way than just a quick shot of violence, and that is a different approach from the one we’re used to,” he said.
“And then also, I think the game has a lot of themes that are really resonating with people, and people are really excited about them.”
Ubisoft has yet to reveal “The Assassin’s Darkness” title, though its developers recently teased it would be released on Nov, 21.
